Morgan is the most popular name for girls in the UK and the US as well as boys in the UK. Morgan Motor Company is a British car manufacturer, making luxury cars as well as sports cars, and inspiring the names of thousands of children every year.

Austin ranks as the most popular car name for boys in the US, a name that is shared with the Austin Motor Company, a British car manufacturer that produced some of Britain’s first cars. This name also ranks as the most popular name overall.

The most unusual names overall are Subaru and Chevrolet with only five instances each since the year 2000. Unusual names also include Ferrari (23 instances), Nissan (29 instances), Wraith (30 instances), Delorean (64 instances) and Benz (76 instances).

The gender divide shows that boys are more likely to be named after cars with 51,782 baby boys in the UK and 724,238 baby boys in the UK with car names, compared to 14,546 UK baby girls and 139,193 US baby girls.

Methodology:

ChooseMyCar your car buying assistant and Bad Credit Car Finance specialist used data from the UK government data for boys names and girls names as well as US government data for baby names to find out how many instances there are of car-related baby names for children born between 2000 and 2018.We based this on an extensive list of car manufacturers and models removing some of the most common baby names that have also been given to cars, such as Zoe. We then presented to top and bottom ten for boys and girls in both countries as well as the overall top and bottom.
