It may no longer be on sale, but this revival of a 70s and 80s classic was a star in its own right.
The “new” Scirocco was launched 16 years after its predecessor disappeared. Sharing its platform with the Golf GTI was a promising start, but then the body and equipment made it an excellent coupe.
There are five trim levels available with the Scirocco; Standard, GT, R-Line, GTS and ‘R’. The entry-level spec offered 17-inch alloy wheels, a 6.5-inch touchscreen system and DAB radio.
Stepping up to the GT provided 18-inch alloys, sat-nav, and parking sensors. The sportier R-Line came with larger 19-inch alloys, a sports styling package, and heated ‘R-Line’ leather sport seats.
The GTS adds a host of cosmetic changes, including unique decals, GTS external branding and exclusive leather seating with red stitching. The range-topping ‘R’ offered unique suspension and sports package as well as chassis control.
There were both petrol and diesel engines available on the Scirocco. The entry engine is a 1.4L petrol with the rest all being 2.0L, which offer reliable performance. The 2.0L diesel engines combine excellent fuel range and drivability.
