Learn more about the Kia E Niro

The multiple award-winning Kia e-Niro was launched in 2018 and, like its Hyundai cousin, the Kona, was designed to be either a Hybrid, a Plug-In Hybrid or Full Electric from the start. While it shares many of the underpinnings of the Hyundai version, however, its longer wheelbase gave it more interior room, making it the preferred choice for many families.

Indeed, it’s been so popular that, right up until the launch of the Tesla Model Y, the e-Niro was the second best selling electric car in the UK.

What really captures the attention is the almost supernatural efficiency of the e-Niro, allowing drivers to go well over 5 miles for every Kilowatt Hour of juice without much effort. That means that, despite a relatively modest 64KWh batter, the e-Niro can go up to 300 miles between charges. If you’re talking price per mile, only newer three wheelers like the Aptera can hope to beat it for value.

Kia offers its electrification-focused vehicle in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric variations. The latter is available in a range of trims, starting with the e-Niro 2 and offering more premium touches with each step up, all the way to the e-Niro 4+ which is their highest available trim.

Kia e-Niro 2

The most affordable of the e-Niro range promises a smooth drive with 17-inch alloy wheels. It prioritises your safety with rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. Simultaneously, it caters to entertainment, offering an 8-inch touchscreen display, radio and DAB as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Kia e-Niro 3

Taking a step up, the Kia e-Niro 3 offers a glimpse of luxury with tasteful black leather upholstery and heated front seats and steering wheel for improved comfort whatever the weather.

Kia e-Niro 4+

If you want the best a Kia e-Niro can offer, you’re in for a treat with the e-Niro 4+. You can look forward to heated front and outer rear seats as well as ventilation in your seats to make sure your car is comfortable 365 days of the year. If that’s not enough, you’ll have an 8-speaker JBL Premium Sound System to impress your friends, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to ensure you never run out of music or entertainment. The e-Niro 4+ also comes with an 11 kW onboard AC charger (3 phase).

The e-Niro is an all-rounder Crossover SUV which allows you the benefit of more space without taking up a vast footprint on your driveway. Pre-2022 models have a modest styling that flies under the radar: a perfect “ninja car” if you want to go electric without shouting from the rooftops. The brand new 2023 models do get a bit shouty, with their show-off aero wing down the side, but it’s still more “handsome” than “gaudy”

Brief History of the Kia E Niro

The first of the Niro (compact crossover SUV) family was manufactured by Kia in 2016. The hybrid model was launched first, followed by the Plug-in Hybrid and, finally, the full electric, which has, understandably, been the biggest seller of the three.

Built on a modular platform designed to be any of the three, there’s no change in interior space or any real sacrifices by going full-electric. Indeed, the most powerful version of the three is the battery-powered one. A little more than you might expect, indeed, with fron wheels spinning if you plant your right foot.

The Kia e-Niro is available with two different versions of batteries: 39.2kWh or 64kWh, with the latter of these offering over 300 miles of range if you’re very careful with the throttle. The smaller battery was eventually discontinued so you won’t find many of those about.

If you’re looking for a family car, the e-Niro is perfect. It offers plenty of space for the front seats without comprising the leg room in the back even for older children or adults – so no more arguments!

If you’re planning to keep your new vehicle all to yourself, the e-Niro is still a great option. Aside from the airy, spacious feel of the interior, the car also boasts a smart, impressive exterior design.

While the Niro range is still relatively new, opting for one of the slightly older models could save you some money and still let you enjoy the safety and reliability of the Kia e-Niro. If you would rather go modern, the newer 2021 models may be worth the spend for the extra feel of luxury in their spacious interiors. Make sure to take note of the car’s age before buying an older model, as this can play a big role in its worth.

The whole Kia Niro range has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating, so you can feel secure behind the wheel.

Kia offers an amazing 7-year/100,000-mile warranty on most of its cars including the e-Nira, proving their confidence in their vehicles.

The e-Niro has a single electric motor and, depending on your choice, you could have 134bph or 201bph.

The e-Niro came 15th in Carbuyer’s survey and was praised for its practicality, costs,  and reliability. Besides, the 7-year warranty means you shouldn’t have any qualms.

Interior detail and affordability make the e-Niro one of the best cars for its mile range.
