In which cars can you drive the furthest on one tank of fuel?

Most Efficient

The Toyota Aygo comes out on top for efficiency with an average MPG of 55, which equates to 12.1 miles to every litre of fuel.

Least Efficient

The Range Rover only has an average MPG of 16, which is just 3.52 miles per litre.

Longest Distance on One Tank

The Land Rover Discovery is able to travel the longest distance on one tank at 593.93 miles with a tank capacity of 90 litres.

Shortest Distance on One Tank

The Hyundai i10 sits at the bottom of our chart with just 330.29 miles for a full tank, although, this is partially due to the size of the tank itself as it has a capacity of 35 litres. For fuel efficiency, this car ranks in the top 20.

Cost Per Mile

The Toyota Aygo takes the top spot when looking at the cost per mile at just 10.55p to the mile, whereas the Land Rover Range Rover sits at the other side of the table, with a significantly more costly 36.25p per mile.

In order to compile our original list of cars, ChooseMyCar your car buying assistant and Bad Credit Car Finance specialist took the top 50 most registered car models from the Department for Transport, specifically, vehicle licensing statistics: 2018 (VEH0161).

Using Honest John, we were able to find the average miles per gallon (MPG) for these cars. We then compared that with the tank capacity using data from Car Leasing Made Simple, choosing the petrol model that was the closest match to the average MPG figure.

Using these figures, we were able to find out how many miles each car could travel on a full tank and how much on average it would cost to fill the tank using recent numbers from The AA which state that petrol costs 127.7p/litre. It should be noted that this is an average for the UK so prices may vary across the country, and prices are subject to change.
