Is the Volkswagen Taigo a good car? The Taigo is a well-built and stylish coupe SUV that doesn’t sacrifice too much in the way of practicality, so it’s still suited to use as a family car. A range of economical but reasonably powerful engines makes it a decent motorway cruiser, too.

The Taigo and T-Roc are similar in size, but the T-Roc is slightly bigger. You can think of it as the older brother – though not by much. We think the Taigo has the more interesting look about it, despite being the cheaper option.

The Taigo ends up being cheaper and having slightly better fuel consumption. However, aesthetically I preferred the T-Roc, both on the outside and the interior finishes. The luggage space is identical, but my T-Roc didn’t come with a spare wheel, and when we go on a trip, we always take advantage of that extra space.

It’s similarly priced to the VW T-Cross. The Taigo is predicted to hold on to its value pretty well, depreciating at the same rate as the Puma. That can have an effect on PCP finance rates, keeping the Taigo competitive with its rivals.

One of the most frequent grumbles across the modern VW range concerns the infotainment system. Taigo owners may experience the central screen freezing becoming unresponsive or lagging. Connectivity issues with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto where the phone randomly disconnects are also common.

Cause: Weak battery, blown fuse, or faulty starter motor If your Tiago clicks but doesn’t crank, or shows flickering dashboard lights, the battery is likely the issue. A blown 20A fuse in the starter circuit, faulty ignition switch, or worn-out starter motor can also cause starting failure.

By stretching the Taigo’s length by 150mm compared to the T-Cross, it’s surprisingly practical for an SUV that’s more about style than functionality. With a 440-litre boot, it only loses 15 litres of space compared to the T-Cross, and it’s actually more spacious than the Volkswagen Golf.
