In German, Volkswagen literally means "car of the people." And that's a reputation Volkswagen has fully deserved after decades of producing high quality, affordable cars.

Volkswagens were particularly well-loved in the heyday of the Beetle and the Combi, though they now have healthy competition from sister brands Skoda, SEAT, and Audi in the driver satisfaction surveys.

While Volkswagen's reputation did take a dent in the emissions scandal, it's now well on its way back up. That's because British drivers never forgot how great the likes of the Golf and the Polo are to drive. Those models remain hugely popular in the UK with families and younger drivers; VW is also represented strongly in the 4x4 stakes by the Tiguan, T-Roc and Touareg.
