The five-seat Vauxhall Antara comes in six trims: E, S, SE, Exclusiv, Diamond and SE Nav. The basic E trim offers a petrol engine while the upgraded Diamond and SE Nav feature a more economical diesel engine plus luxury detailing. All models offer either an automatic or manual transmission option.

Vauxhall Antara E

The E was first launched in 2007 with a high-performance 2.4-litre petrol engine. It offers the basics such as heated power-assisted mirrors, electric windows, 17-inch alloy wheels, ABS, air con and rake-adjustable steering.

Vauxhall Antara S

S models carry a 2.0 CDTi turbo diesel engine plus an extra element of luxury with climate control, heated seats and cruise control.

Vauxhall Antara SE

At the top end of the original roll-out, the SE features the 2.0 CDTi turbo diesel engine as well as full leather seats, headlamp washers, 6-CD stereo and parking sensors.

Vauxhall Antara Exclusiv

Post-upgrade, the Antara’s Exclusiv introduced the Euro 5-compliant 2.2-litre turbo diesel in 2WD or 4WD, alongside silver-toned roof rails, 17-inch alloys, automatic self-levelling and reclining rear seats.

Vauxhall Antara Diamond

The Diamond trim option builds on the Exclusiv, adding leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat and 2.2-litre CDTi diesel unit for better fuel efficiency.

Vauxhall Antara SE Nav

The SE Nav trim option adds 19-inch alloy wheels, Xenon headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, sat-nav, folding front seat, leather gear stick, a heated windscreen washer system, rear parking sensors and adaptive cruise control (ACC) for a smoother driving experience.

First launched in 2006, the Vauxhall Antara uses a combination of body-on-frame construction and unibody construction. This means that it has strong handling characteristics for an off-roader and decent ride comfort for everyday use.

While not as well equipped or refined as some other models in its class, the Antara packs plenty of space, is easy to drive and has great towing capacity. Earlier models only feature a five speed gearbox, but the Antara underwent a facelift in 2012, adding six speeds, extra space and luxury features such as hill-start assist, making newer models the ones to opt for.

Although discontinued in 2015, the Antara continues to give a decent SUV experience to families looking to navigate the city and rural settings with ease.

Brief History of the Vauxhall Antara

The Vauxhall Antara was Vauxhall’s first SUV since the Frontera, and was originally designed and manufactured by Opel. It was launched in 2007 with a 2.0 CDTi turbo diesel engine and 147bhp, plus a 2.4 petrol version offering 138bhp.

Originally the car featured only five-speed gearboxes, but a major update in 2012 introduced six speeds, new front and rear lights, better fuel economy, an electric parking brake, and a Euro 5 compliant 2.2-litre diesel engine.

Available in 2WD and 4WD options, the car is positioned for the ‘soft roading’ experience. In 2015, production ceased, but used Vauxhall Antaras are still a sound choice for families looking for a compact SUV with the ability to tow.

The Antara is practical and functional, with lots of room for passengers inside, along with space for luggage in the boot. With five seats available, and a folding passenger seat on newer trims, it’s flexible too.

Plus, there’s roof rails and a tow bar that packs 1,700kg to 2,000kg of towing capacity, ideal for families who want to escape the city.

Available in 2WD and 4WD, the Vauxhall Antara could be the perfect choice for you if you’re looking for a car that’s stylish, versatile and comfortable.

Since Vauxhall ceased production, many older models lack the spec of newer cars available on PCP arrangements. As such, it’s worthwhile considering a higher spec trim such as the SE Nav. It won’t depreciate as fast and will still get the job done. Or if you’re simply looking for a handy run-around that meets your essential family needs, the Exclusiv or Diamond models are more than adequate.

If you’re looking for used Vauxhall Antara finance, ChooseMyCar.com has a great range of financing options to suit your needs, including PCP, HP and lease.

PCP allows you to pay off the car in monthly instalments over an agreed period of time. You can also choose to buy out the vehicle at any point or continue paying off the car until it is yours outright. A hire purchase or lease agreement allows you to pay in monthly instalments until you own the car.

The Vauxhall Antara is a cheap family car, but it can be expensive to run, giving a low 32.1mpg on petrol and 42.2mpg on diesel. This is even lower on automatic models. It also generates a high CO2 output so it’s not quite as clean as its rivals.

The Vauxhall Antara covers your basic needs. That said, if you’re looking for something that’s going to last for years without needing any repairs, this might not be the car for you.

The 2.2-litre turbo diesel, 182bhp engine in the SE Nav is probably the best bet if you’re looking for maximum power and towing capacity.

You’ll get 3 years or 60,000 km (whichever comes first) of warranty on all parts and labour costs with most dealerships.

Despite its rugged looks, not all Vauxhall Antaras are suitable for off-road use. The vehicle comes in 4×4 and front wheel drive options, so if you’re looking for off-road use, consider the 4WD. That said, performance might be outstripped by its competitors.
