The C-HR is one of the better Toyotas of recent years to drive. With the exception of the GT86 – one of our favourite cars – most Toyotas have felt overly light to drive in terms of controls, but all the main controls such as steering and brakes in the C-HR are well weighted.

The most common Toyota C-HR breakdowns involve the hybrid system, especially when the engine won’t start or the entire system malfunctions. The 2019 models with 2.0 Hybrid and 1.8 Hybrid powertrains show characteristic symptoms such as error messages in the BSM (Blind Spot Monitor) and PCS (Pre-Collision System).

In 2022, the final model year, Toyota sold 12,141 C-HR’s down a total of 66 percent from the previous year’s 35,707 cars sold. Worse yet is how it compared to other Toyotas. The 2017 and 2020 year models are the ones we most highly recommend, with each having a striking zero complaints on their record. The 2019 Toyota C-HR follows closely behind but isn’t quite as reliable, with one report of easily cracked windshields coming in under 30,000 miles.

The pros of hybrid cars are improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and advanced technology, but there are also drawbacks, including higher initial costs and potential maintenance issues.

There’s no winner in the battle of the 2021 Toyota C-HR vs. Toyota RAV4, because both models offer exceptional performance and technology. However, you might find that one suits your driving needs and budget better than the other.

On average, a well-maintained Toyota C-HR can last 200,000 to 250,000 miles or about 15 to 20 years of use. This figure is consistent with Toyota’s reputation for building some of the longest-lasting vehicles on the road.
