Different to the Action trim, this trim has a large battery and a longer range of around 199 miles. The Fiat 500 Electric model is a newer version of the original Fiat 500. It was first released in 2011 when it won the “World Green Car of the Year” award for being an environmentally- friendly vehicle but this version never made it back to the UK. In March 2020, Fiat launched a brand new 500e, built from the ground up to be electric. This time, the electric 500 would reach our shores.

In 2022, the regular, petrol powered 500 was discontinued, making the 500e the only Fiat 500 you can now buy new.

Brief History of the Fiat 500-electric

In the early 1990s, Fiat introduced its first electric car, the Panda EV. The Panda EV was designed to be an urban vehicle with room for two people. It had a range of about 100 miles and could reach speeds of 55 miles per hour.

In 2010, Fiat introduced a new concept for an electric version of their popular 500 model—the 500e. This concept car had four doors and seating for four people, as well as a range of 115 miles on a single charge. This modified 500 was initially sold in California in the USA and in some European markets but never made it across to the UK.

In 2020, Fiat announced a brand new 500e on a new EV-only platform – this is the one you’ll find on used markets over here. It has been wildly successful, especially in Italy and Germany, where it frequently tops EV sales charts. Initially being sold along with the petrol version, the 500e eventually replaced the 500 entirely in 2022.
