Brief History of the MG 5-ev

As mentioned above, the first iteration of the MG5 EV was launched in 2020, with an all-new model set to become available at the end of 2022. Originally, MG offered a 52.5kWh battery model, however, this has since been upgraded to a long-range version, now sporting a 61.1kWh battery and promising greater power.

This vehicle is a great choice for drivers looking for compact, fully-equipped estates that are extremely affordable, making it easier to get out and about on family day trips. It also comes with some impressive onboard technology, including an Infotainment touchscreen to help you control the DAB radio and sat-nav with ease. In terms of its performance on the road, the MG5 EV takes only 8 seconds to reach 60mph, proving to be 1.5 seconds quicker than the Peugeot e-2008. It’s smooth and crisp to drive, accelerating easily with just the touch of a pedal and promising a leisurely experience within its cosy cabin.

When you’re deciding between the different MG5 EVs, the main thing to consider is your budget and what features are important for you to have in your car. Although the basic level Excite comes with all the necessary features you will need for a safe and enjoyable ride, you may want to pay that little extra for the bonus elements on offer with the Exclusive.

Is the MG5 being discontinued? Yes, in fact it already has been, and it’s been effectively replaced by the MG S5 EV electric SUV. There are plenty of used MG5 EVs on the market, though.

MG5s (and MG cars in general) are so cheap due to a combination of lower Chinese manufacturing costs (labor, battery components), simplified designs, aggressive market positioning focused on affordability, and strategic pricing to gain market share against more established brands, offering great value with generous standard features but sometimes at the expense of premium materials or ultimate refinement.

Common problems with the MG5 (especially the EV model) often involve electrical glitches (infotainment, dashboard displays, random lights), frustrating 12-volt battery issues, software bugs causing power drains, and sometimes charging faults, along with general complaints about build quality like interior rattles and poor parts availability, though owner reliability scores are generally good despite these frustrations, says What Car?.

The pricing range for the most recent Mg 5 Ev is between ₹27.00 Lakhs and ₹27.00 Lakhs. There are 1 different variants of the Mg 5 Ev. The base model, the “Mg 5 Ev “, is offered at ₹27.00 Lakhs, while the top model, the “Mg 5 Ev STD” costs around ₹27.00 Lakhs. On-road costs can differ from one city to another.

MG’s parent company is SAIC Motor (Shanghai Automobile Industry Corporation). SAIC Motor is the 7 th largest car manufacturer in the world and was the first automobile group in China with annual sales exceeding 7 million units.

MG is much like Dacia in the fact that it’s a value brand, and the ZS EV is one of the more affordable EVs around. It successfully undercuts both its main rivals, the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Niro EV, while providing more practicality than electric models more expensive than it, like the Volkswagen ID.
