Under the bonnet, you’ll find a choice of refined engines including hybrid powertrains that deliver smooth power delivery and impressive fuel economy. The interior showcases Lexus’s attention to detail with premium materials and excellent build quality throughout. While it may not offer the sharpest handling of its German competitors, the RC excels in areas that matter to many buyers like long term reliability and comfortable cruising. Lexus RC Running Costs, Reliability & Finance Options

As a luxury coupe, the RC sits in the premium segment for running costs, but offers competitive efficiency especially in hybrid form. The RC 300h hybrid delivers impressive real-world fuel economy of around 40-45 MPG, which helps keep fuel costs reasonable for such a large, powerful car. Is the Lexus RC Practical for Everyday Use?

For a luxury coupe, the RC offers reasonable practicality though it’s clearly designed with style as the priority. The 366-litre boot is a decent size for the class, easily accommodating weekend luggage or a weekly shop. The rear seats fold down to expand cargo space for longer items, though the opening is somewhat restricted by the sloping roofline. Interior storage is adequate with useful door pockets and a decent-sized centre console compartment.

Absolutely love my RC 300h. The build quality is outstanding and it’s so smooth and quiet to drive. The styling really turns heads and the hybrid system is surprisingly efficient. My only complaint is the rear seats are quite tight, but as a couple car it’s perfect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, the Lexus RC is exceptionally reliable for daily use. Lexus has built a reputation for outstanding reliability and the RC continues this tradition. Owners report very few mechanical issues and the hybrid system is proven technology. Regular servicing is straightforward and the comprehensive warranty provides additional peace of mind. The RC consistently ranks highly in reliability surveys, making it one of the most dependable luxury coupes available.

The RC 300h hybrid delivers impressive real world fuel economy, typically achieving 40-45 MPG in mixed driving conditions. City driving sees the best results where the electric motors do most of the work, often exceeding 45 MPG. Motorway cruising usually returns around 38-42 MPG. This makes it one of the most efficient luxury coupes available, significantly better than most V6 petrol alternatives and competitive with smaller engined German rivals.

The RC takes a different approach compared to German rivals, prioritising refinement and build quality over outright sportiness. It’s more reliable than most German alternatives and offers superior interior materials and craftsmanship. However, BMW and Mercedes models typically offer sharper handling and more advanced infotainment systems. The RC’s unique styling also stands out, though it’s more polarising than conservative German designs. Choose the RC for quality and uniqueness, German cars for technology and sport handling.

Maintenance costs for the RC are reasonable for a luxury car and often lower than German competitors. Lexus servicing is competitively priced and the brand’s reliability means fewer unexpected repairs. The hybrid system requires minimal additional maintenance beyond regular services. Parts and labour costs are moderate, and the excellent build quality means components last longer. While not as cheap as mainstream brands, the RC offers good value maintenance for the luxury coupe segment.

The choice depends on your priorities. The RC 300h hybrid offers superior fuel economy, lower emissions, and whisper-quiet operation, making it ideal for daily driving and city use. The RC 350 V6 provides stronger acceleration and a more engaging engine note for enthusiast drivers. For most buyers, the hybrid makes more sense due to its efficiency and refinement. Only choose the V6 if you prioritise performance over economy and don’t mind higher running costs.
